BARCC

The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center has a mission to end sexual violence through healing and social change. Established in 1973, BARCC was the second rape crisis center in the United States and the first in Massachusetts. Over the years, the BARCC grew from a small service (not much more than a room, a phone, and the people to answer it) to a multi-service agency serving thousands each year.
The BARCC has developed a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to addressing sexual violence that has been hailed as a state and national model. A longtime leader in developing services for survivors, the BARCC is now also at the forefront of developing a public health-focused, community-based approach to the primary prevention of sexual violence – that means stopping this violence before it happens.
In 2006, the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center earned the Non-Profit of the Year Award from the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce for its “superior performance, quality and consistency in pursuit of its mission.”
SANE
The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program creates the coordinated, expert forensic care necessary to increase successful prosecution of sex offenders and to deliver the highest level of care to sexual assault victims age 12 and over accessing hospital emergency departments and urgent care centers.
VRLC
Founded as the first law center in the nation dedicated solely to serving the legal needs of sexual assault victims, the Victim Rights Law Center Advocates for sexual assault victims’ legal rights within the civil, academic and criminal justice systems. We not only give survivors the free legal services they need, but also work to make the legal system a more accessible and just system.
Through an innovative model of community collaboration, we have created a network of allies (medical providers, counselors, lawyers) dedicated to improving legal services for rape victims. |
